Thinking Unconstrained

About

A (Relatively) Quick Return

That was unfair, I know, I know. Me very sorry. To think that it was perfectly fine to just drop and leave while in the middle of the most momentous and transformational time in history was a selfish thing to do. I realize this now, but at the time I did honestly think that it was best if I was to keep my silence so as to give others the opportunity to step into that space I was leaving behind. Apparently this wasn't the best course of action to take in hindsight and it seems we're not quite ready to retire this work into etheric obscurity just yet.

So here we are, back at the beginning. But it is different now. You consciously and explicitly chose to call me back and I thank you for this. Your appreciation means alot to me, and with your encouragement, your advice, and your willingness to slap some sense into this wayward fool, we will find our way through this time of uncertainty together. You are my people after all, and I am yours to keep. Let's get our house in order and get to work.

(Epi|Pro)logue

We've come a long way, baby! But boy, oh boy, do we have work to do. If you're new here then we suggest you start from the beginning. So scroll way down, down, down to year number one. For the rest of our beloved friends, well... The hour has at last arrived for the final curtain's close. Because at this stage, all that needed to be said was already spoken and we feel that now is the right time to give way for others to carry on the conversation. Although a somewhat somber fact to admit, we also feel an enormous satisfaction in knowing that our perspective was shared - with companions such as you who have the patience to overlook our many blemishes and who have the willingness to consider a viewpoint that may be starkly in contrast with your own. And for that, we thank you deeply. You've been most excellent and we hope this work has made a difference in your life and will continue to prove useful on your amazing journey going forward.

So what conclusions can we draw from this project after three years of steady effort and the many months of preparation preceding its launch? In all honesty, we can only tell you that it was something that needed to be done - both for our calling's sake, and for you who needed this work to unblock you and to help you to grow in your own life. Perhaps you just wanted a little confirmation that you're not alone in the world and you sought an assurance that there are other people out there who experience reality as you do. Or maybe the work herein is something you have to cogitate on for a while before it can make sense to you fully and which will hopefully help reveal those simple truths that may be hidden from you in plain sight. Or perhaps what you see here is but a small example and an inspiration for you to go and achieve those seemingly impossible things with just a little encouragement from a familiar stranger. Maybe, just maybe...

And if you are so inclined, you can also view this as an opportunity, as an invitation, and a challenge for you to give these three homework exercises a try for yourself. Perhaps you can use them to help yourself and others by becoming an example for those around you to expand their horizons beyond the limits of their set paradigms and constricting world views. Imagine if one day the average person you met on the street was able to do this work effectively in regard to their own specific circumstances. That might make our existence slightly more interesting to say the least, don't you think? Remember, your life is your own and nobody else's and what you do with it is between you and your Maker. Strengthen this relationship and you won't ever falter. All else follows from this basic promise. Therefore, try not to forget it and be sure to be generous with your forgivings. You will need them, we assure you.

So, that about wraps it. And if you're a newbie still reading this, then tut, tut. Scroll! As for our travelling companions, take heart and stoutly follow it. Do as you innately know to be right and be responsive to your calling. Recall that common sense is only as common as you make it and without your contribution and your willingness to keep it alive, it cannot exist. Rise and shine therefore, because without you the world cannot help itself but sink in darkness; into that hollow abyss of silver tongued distractions and temptations to convince you of the crushing futility in even attempting to reach for the sky. So remind yourself to look up and smile once in a while, and never mind all the bollocks. Be sure to keep the light and the blinkers on, and you'll be golden. And with that, we bid you our most fondest of farewells and an indubitably serendipitous c u l8r alligator. May peace be with you. May you walk in truth always. And may your path be made bright and clear, free and filled with hope for many an age to come.

Year III

You're good! Do come in and take a gander. Mind your head and pay no heed to the alarming sign on the front door. Despite the stark and ominous warning, you can be assured that we have many capable armaments at our disposal - should you have any need of them to dispatch those numerous fiends knocking about in the vast cosmoses between our ears. What you've stumbled onto is an ongoing experiment - and a series of exercises - of which the results have yet to play out to their fullest expression. What is the main objective of this experimental project? To adequately answer this question and for you to gain a better frame of reference for understanding, we suggest you take a read of the yearly update pages of the previous years below to get a sense of how this project had started out and how it has progressed since. Perhaps then you may begin to see what this project means to us now and of what must be the next steps going forward.

The world and the reality we inhabit is both fragile and glorious. We forget this sometimes. Our tendency to ignore the blatantly obvious is truly exceptional. Perhaps it is in our nature; an inevitable human condition that drives us to lose our common sense as easily and as frequently as we do. And if that is the case, it would be useful for us to remember at least now and then as to the direction our compass should point at and by what rule we should hold ourselves to account.

And so we are facilitating this our most relevant need by initiating a new forum for our new exercise. Its focus is on gaining a perspective that we, the human family are to realize that we are indeed as such, and to design from ground up a workable society that serves our innate and common purpose. If a carte blanche was to be presented at our doorstep, then what are we to do to construct a world we are to thrive in? If we had all the time in the world to work both personally and together towards our shared goals, then what kind of a world are we to bring about into existence? And if we understood our personal and societal faults and limits, then what new avenues and doors could reveal themselves and present us with new opportunities? Or to put it in more succinct and apt words, we could instead ask of one another the age old question - quo vadis?

We should understand that every moment we experience presents us with a choice and an opportunity for change; a change that could be for better or worse; for each of us is a fulcrum that moves the world. We forget this too sometimes. So let us remember to pick ourselves up out of those towering pits of our imaginary constructs and find our levers. Let us put them in good hands and find good use. Then perhaps when we stand as one with our realizing gazes meeting on the new horizon, we will find the world moving; and with our unhindered sight finding the newfound brilliance all about us, we may find the world working - in a marvelously unique, wonderful, and mysterious way.

How do you do! Watch your head - it's been known to crack sometimes - especially if you don't have your thinking cap on. But then again, a thinking cap isn't a helmet; and there are many foes in here in the beyond regions of the new frontier, who can very easily blow that hat off with a single flick of their Ginsu knife talon - if they were so kind enough to leave the rest of your cranium intact and above your shoulders, that is. I guess I'm trying to say that you've wandered into a place where you may not want to be. There's a reason why there's a sign at the front door warning you not to enter; for strange ideas are born in strange places; and this would certainly qualify as one of those. If you don't find these ideas to be strange however, then I extend my congratulations to you! You have what people used to refer to as a "common sense"; for these ideas are nothing but based on such simple and basal views. You're not alone in the world after all!

The objective of this project still remains a mystery - at least to those of us who experience time in a linearly causal manner; so it's about the same as to what it was when it was launched a year ago (refer to the section below). But a few insights have revealed themselves during this very interesting annual sojorn; many of which may be deemed irrelevant or obvious to those who are advanced in their learning and prestige. I will let you come to your own conclusions as to what those insights might be; for this journey is as much yours as it is ours; and your own insights are the most valuable and useful to you.

So in light of these new revelations, we're opening another separate forum - whose focus is on understanding our common aspects as human beings, in our internal progression through life. It is an exploration of the shared ideas that we deem are important in our personal journeys as individuals participating in this larger family we call humanity. Are such ideals truly common among us? Do we really share these experiences and expectations? Are our perceptions fundamentally aligned at all? These questions and our chosen terrain are inherently personal - and very philosophical - and even existential - and perhaps downright mental. But let's try not to get stuck in these gymnastics and contortions of the mind. Instead, let us see if the human commonalities can be brought low (or rather, high) enough to yield objectivity. So be sure to wear your favorite sturdy footwear; trust me - you'll want your feet warm and free from blisters on this journey. And don't forget to bring your thinking cap. It's already proven to be quite useful on numerous occasions.

Year I

Welcome! If you're wondering what this website is about, I'm sorry to disappoint you but I have no idea either. It's a virtual community structured as a message board but a community of what? What are its goals and what is it that we're trying to achieve? And why aren't we using an existing platform with all the bells and whistles of modernity and outreach potential far superior to a seemingly obsolete format of the archaic early days of the internet? All very good questions, and I do have very good answers to them, albeit I'd rather think of them as answers relevant to the here and now than something concrete and immutable.

In a nutshell, this is an experiment and an outlet for personal gratification, which I hope it can be for you as well. AEIOUM is a place where we can discuss ideas, not in the sense of technological extensions by experts with impressive affiliations in corporate and academic worlds, nor is it about discussing new ideas so that we can make money off of them or further our careers. No, this is not what we mean when we talk about ideas. It's rather about having a conversation beyond the confines of our daily lives, aimed at simplicity and clarity of meaning in a well thought out exchange of concepts and processes. There's a famous quote by Eleanor Roosevelt, who stated that, "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people". I don't want to inflate my ego and say that I'm one of these great minds but dammit, discussing ideas is what I enjoy the most. And I want to share this with anyone who has similar sentiments. This is a journey and I haven't a clue as to where it will take us but I know that I want you with me. Perhaps together we can create a better world by simply talking to one another and taking on the challenges that nobody wants to pay for, discuss for free or are too afraid of confronting.

So why would an internet forum be the choice of platform instead of reusing a handful of existing behemoths with millions and billions of users? To this I answer with a rhetorical question. I don't mean to insult anyone, but how many of those millions and billions are willing to discuss ideas in high quality dialogue or are even vaguely interested in the topics? What we need is to be able to write and have meaningful exchanges without the clutters and distractions offered by these platforms. Under the hood, they're basically specialized forums anyways so it's a matter of going back to the basics and using what we need. We need time to think and carefully construct our responses without pressure and without word limits. We need the freedom to cover a large range of topics and not be constrained to a strict format of focused Q&A. And we need to promote anonymity to dissuade people from using credentials to support an argument by claiming to be experts. An internet message board fits these requirements nicely.

If you're like me and have bemoaned the lack of an outlet for your very niche psychological needs then I'm sure you've a big smile on your face right now. And if I was a slick salesman with outrageously shiny teeth and a cheshire cat smile, this is when I would urge you to sign up right away and start "contributing"! But I'm not one of those people. Rather I urge you to take your time and join us when you're ready. It's perfectly fine to lurk and browse, although we sincerely hope to see your thoughts manifest on these pages soon. With that, we again extend our warm greetings and our congratulations at having found us on the vast virtual space of the internet.
